DVD: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

DVD: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

This comic book inspired movie, created as a prequel to the X-Men trilogy, has all the explosions and special effects you might hope for in this genre, but for me seemed just too shallow. Sure, there were a couple of plot twists and some funny lines, but it might have been better to include some more substance in between all the set pieces.

President’s day at Macalester College, Minnesota, from the viewpoint of Brian Rosenberg, the President of Macalester College – has something of a David Letterman sensibility to it.

John Lampard has an insightful little hypothetical day-in-the-life of what might have happened if the internet was not invented. Reminds me a lot of my first year of uni in 1994, when floppy discs were still a significant form of data transfer.

Perhaps you’ve been signing up for a lot of different mailing lists. Maybe your friends are forwarding you things you don’t want to read straight away (if at all).

Why not set up your email program so that these messages are automatically sent to an email folder that you check less frequently? There’s no reason to interrupt your day to read messages that have little or no immediate benefit – why not spend a larger block of time less frequently, when you’re looking for a distraction or some mental down-time?

Here’s a useful list of 5 Types of Emails You Should be Automatically Filtering.

Movie: The Men who Stare at Goats

Movie: The Men who Stare at Goats

Decided to see this one after seeing the trailer, and so when Popcorn Taxi announced their screening of the men who stare at goats Kel and I decided to head along.

Unusually for a popcorn taxi screening, there were some empty seats in the cinema – I think it was that instead of someone directly from the film, it was the author of the source material – Jon Ronson – who was interviewed.

Having not read the book myself, I was a little confused as to much of what was covered in the interview, though he did point out that a couple of the events in the film were based on real events that happened to Ronson.

Much like the Ocean’s series of films, Goats is a comedy where we watch the cast having a great time with the source material. It makes for a great trailer, and it’s enjoyable to watch everything falling into place.

There are moments of slapstick humour, and – as you realise that some of it is based on real army policy – jaw-dropping that such things could happen in a real army.

Not without flaws, if you’re interested in watching another comedic Clooney performance, you’ll have a good time.
