Central Coffee Co, Central Station: sydney

by cafedave on December 7, 2007

Campos Coffee. Near the intersection of Devonshire St and Chalmers St. A kiosk setting that squeezes in some outdoor seating near central station. Early morning buskers fill the air with jazz, somehow distracting from the din of peak hour trains nearby.

Coffee is ready quite quickly, and is worthy of its campos takeaway cup. A good temperature for drinking, smooth, and with no unpleasantness. Great to have such a quality cup so close to the station!

Forget about writing here, though: better to grab a takeaway cup and sit in the nearby park – too many distractions.

Gallery café, annandale

by cafedave on April 23, 2007

Campos coffee. Tiny street frontage belies a massive space inside; big windows at the back overlook the local houses. A range of paintings adorn the walls, as you’d expect from a “gallery café”; spare walll space is adorned wi h a variety of indoor plants. Locals – some with prams – gather to sample the breakfast menu: the prices are hovering just below the early teens, but the servings are massive.

Coffee seems a bit stale, not as high calibre as you’d expected from the campos branding. 6.5/10

Well Connected, Glebe

by cafedave on December 30, 2006

Campos Coffee. 35 Glebe Point Rd, Glebe. Stays true to its heritage as a converted house with a choice of seating: table and chairs or armchairs and couches. From 11am each day, you can sit on the balcony or upstairs, earlier it’s just the ground floor, overlooking Glebe Point Road, the espresso machine, and the kitchen.

Coffee is good; an intricate fern tops my skim latte. Better still is the tall latte, just a hint of coffee through the thick haze of milk. An old favourite of mine.

Bellagio Café, Waverley

by cafedave on November 12, 2006

Campos Coffee. 285 Bronte Rd, Waverley. Convert a terrace house with a large yard into a café, and this is what you’ll get: massive, relaxed space shaded by umbrellas. The sound of Bronte Road is somewhat muted by the fence, and the sound of old jazz drifts peacefully across the courtyard in quiet moments.

Coffee takes a long, long time to arrive, and when it does, it’s hot: very hot, but everything else about it seems right. The taste is a little subdued, but the texture is right on the money.

Maybe they were too busy, but the promised water never arrived to go with my coffee.

Well worth checking out again.
