Muse café, summer hill
Coffee roaster coffee. With a courtyard out the back, and a mystery rom upstairs, this café has plenty of capacity, but seems rather packed with seating. I’m looking for a venue to meet friends and their toddler, and i’m not sure i’ve found it. Staff are helpful, even the chef who works [...]
Café envy, summer hill
Karmee coffee. Big courtyard overlooking franklins, soothing music piped across, soft coversations in the background; a good place to relax or to study. No table numbers to take to a table here. A range of inexpensive sweets abound on the blackboard menu.
Coffee takes a little while to appear, and when it arrives [...]
Perhaps an odd choice: Samuel L Jackson as the voice of God.
[kottke] Stop-Motion Human Space Invaders; strangely compelling video.
The death of the doctor in New York who blew up his house, so that his estranged wife wouldn’t benefit from the sale - the one who suffered burns to over 30% of his body in the explosion - has been declared a suicide
Thoughts on Blogging - the 5/150 Principle - what are you doing with the influence you have on people through your blog (written from a Christian point of view, but applies even more broadly).
Perenti, gloucester
Toby’s estate coffee. Relaxed, kid friendly café with lots of natural light, a generous attitude towards water.
Coffee is good; pleasant to drink and well made.
Another few hundred kilometres later, and another weekend is over. Lots of happy memories, and some - at the end of the weekend - sad ones.
About to head up to NSW central coast, to visit friends in Gloucester, and go to a family reunion (meet some more in-laws) in Forster. Thanks to the wonders of English spelling, these two towns rhyme.
[kottke] Imagining the Tenth Dimension - A Book by Rob Bryanton
This person really likes to talk passionately about book binding; in this case, about a leather-bound ESV.
“Wash Me” taken to a new level - the Dust Art of Scott Wade
Movie: Superman Returns
Evokes a lot of memories from the first two Superman movies; as someone has said, while you see other superheroes fight with their enemies, all you really see Superman do is lift things.
There’s plenty of lifting, but there’s even a little bit of genuine fighting. Kevin Spacey is a great Lex Luthor, bringing [...]
107, crows nest
Campos coffee. A tidy little spot in crows nest; lots of air; similar to toby’s estate or penny royal in attitude and menu; a relaxed place.
Coffee was disappointing; I have high hopes for campos, and they just weren’t achieved here. I’m told the decaf is good, though.
Incorporates the 1970’s video game to a timepiece: the Pong Clock - also available as a screen saver.
Product Concept - Transparent Toaster (doesn’t actually get hot enough to make toast yet, but perhaps one day)
Ouch, (Jenolan) Caves House so bad complaint forms ran out. I’ve been there a couple of times, although not for an overnight stay: the food was expensive, but it sounds like it’s gone downhill.
Caffelatte, gladesville
Segafredo coffee. Open seven days; bright, pleasant atmosphere and enthusiastic barista.
Coffee is unusually good for segafredo, but still has that strange aftertaste. Good enough to warrant a visit, if only for the puzzles on the tables.
Dolcini, putney
Illy coffee. Design inspired by 2001. Lots of breeze and daylight; order and pay at counter, we realise after a while of sitting at a table. Staff seem little disinterested, but are keen for a chat when you initiate the conversation.
Coffee is a good temperature and texture, but the beans are a little [...]
