DVD: Arrested Development

DVD: Arrested Development

A number of people have told me that I'd enjoy Arrested Development, and over the past few weeks, the opportunity to watch it on DVD has come up. Sure enough, this kind of densely packed, fast-moving comedy was sure to fail in the US: it's just too fast moving to fit the usual sit-com model.

While a lot of the humour comes from innuendo, there is a lot to be enjoyed in the simple interactions of the dysfunctional Bluth family, and the masterful move from sappy dramatic moment back to comedy. My favourite lines came from the mother of the family - "They're just heels... They can only support so much weight". Be prepared to watch the episodes very closely, and expect to need to rewind occasionally, just to catch up on a missed joke or two.
